Okay, guys, I'm trying something a little different this year because I am so discombobulated in the fall that I have not even managed to get in touch with the people who have offered to help. Why do the holidays fall at the start of the semester again?

Since participation has been dropping off, I'm going to try running the challenge as a prompt meme, using the AO3's built-in prompt meme tool, just to mix it up.

Leave prompts from now until Friday September 14 (12AM GMT-5). You have a month to write: assignments are due during Sukkot, on Wednesday October 10 (12AM GMT-5). Works will be revealed as soon as the challenge closes, and authors revealed one week later.

So leave prompts now! And please signal boost. Prompt-a-thons are FUN.

does anyone feel like helping me run the challenge this year? Because this is absolutely my busiest time of year and I have a tendency to fall down and not do a great job.

You have until midnight EST Wednesday night to post a story for Days of Awesome 2011! After than I will reveal the stories but not the authors.

There's only three stories there now, so why don't you try to write a drabble or three? :D

Okay, so. I flaked on Days of Awesome this year, because I'm overwhelmed. But all week I've been getting kudos for previous years' Days of Awesome stories, and it's making me feel guilty. (Appropriately!)

So here, have the instaquick delayed Days of Awesome. Hey, it's still the days of awe, right? Right?

Post as many or as few stories as you want, of any length, at the AO3 Days of Awesome 2011 collection between now and October 20th; stories will be hidden. On October 20th, I'll reveal the stories. On October 30th, I'll reveal the authors.

And סלח לי, forgive me.

I didn't do a very good round up at the end of the challenge this fall, did I? Really I need to be not running a challenge every year falls at the beginning of the only semester in which I teach. *facepalm*

In any case, you know what's happening now? Purim Gifts! Rules and updates are at [community profile] purimgifts.

I'm still not sure if I'm going to participate, because last year I defaulted. :-( So you should all participate so that there are tons of awesome stories and I benefit anyway!
jadelennox: Judeo-Christian pancake party. Judaism is practice based; Christianity is faith-based. (From cat and girl) (religion: judeo christianity)

Happy New Year Everybodeeeeee! (To properly get the effect of that, imagine me yodeling it in my Gonzo voice while waving my arms as if they were, well, Gonzo's, throwing confetti in the air.)

Guys! We're up to ten stories, and we still have another week to go. We are clearly smack in the middle of the DAYS OF AWESOME, are we not?

Several of these are for the simultaneous Days of Awesome and Eid Ka Chand challenges (the latter of which helped raise money for disaster recovery in Pakistan).

This week alone:

No new stories were posted in days of awesome this week. I hope you're just hard at work on a current story (as I am)!

You don't need to write seven stories, or even two, to contribute to the challenge. Even a single drabble is welcome!

Week 2 roundup, not counting mystery works which are crossposted to Eid 2010..

Also, signal boosting the Sponsored Eid-al-thon for Pakistan, which is asking people to make pledges supporting relief organizations helping flood relief efforts in Pakistan by pledging a certain amount of money for fanworks generated for the [community profile] eid_ka_chand challenge. If you can, participate, or find some other way to help relief efforts. It's the time of year for Teshuva, Tefilla, and Tzedakah, and this is a damn good cause for your tzedakah.

Days of Awesome started this week, and there's already two posted stories!

Administrivia: We are strongly encouraging cross-posts as appropriate with the Eid 2010 Ficathon. Days of Awesome is an open collection, where all stories are visible as soon as they're posted. Eid stories, on the other hand, will be revealed on Eid al-Fitr, which is a 11 September. That means that if the story is crossposted to both collections, it will be hidden until the reveal date for the Eid challenge. (Nice coding, by the way, AO3 developers!)

Hi y'all! With encouragement from [personal profile] roga, I've posted a short Days of Awesome ficlet to the AO3.

It's gen, 964 words, and it's a crossover between True Blood and The Daily Show, written in response to the "guilt" prompt. Enjoy!

The Daily Show With Special Guest Nan Flanagan

JON: Welcome back to The Daily Show. Tonight's guest is the spokeswoman for the American Vampire League. You've probably seen her on Fox News and on MSNBC, but I'm proud to report that this is the first fake news studio she's ever deigned to set foot in. Please welcome Nan Flanagan!

[personal profile] rydra_wong initiated a Jewish/Muslim character prompt -a-thon:

This is entirely unofficial and ad-hoc. But if you've got a brilliant idea featuring a Jewish character and a Muslim character you'd like to see interacting, please leave it! And if you see a prompt and are inspired to write/vid/make art, run with it!

Signal boosting is fun! Leave prompts, and if you write such a story, and it otherwise fits the rules of the two communities, go ahead and post to Eid ka chand's and Days of awesome's collections.

And remember, our 30 day challenge starts on August 18!

This year the challenge will be run out of the Archive of our Own (AO3). If you don't have an AO3 account, you can request one.

AO3 provides a handy-dandy tutorial in posting a story to a collection, but the process is pretty easy. In fact, here's a link to post directly to the collection.

This year I'm doing things a little differently. There's still seven-item prompt tables to choose from, but posting is open for a full month, from August 18 until the end of the Days of Awe, September 18. Between the number of participants who celebrate the High Holidays, and the beginning of the school year, too many people found the old posting schedule unmanageable. As always, try for seven but fewer is fine!

I've made collections on the Archive of our Own for the previous 3 years' challenges. Feel free to file your old Days of Awesome Stories into the appropriate collections. (They're named "daysofawesome2007", "daysofawesome2008", and "daysofawesome2009".)
